Thrifting Adventures: Home Decor

Winter Bee:

Last week I shared my wardrobe thrifting while visiting Findlay, Ohio. This week I’m highlighting my favorite place to shop for home décor. Tangerine Tea has a few weeks off- she’s busy working on wedding plans, which we’ll get to hear more about soon!

Ohio has some amazing Antique Malls in Findlay and nearby Columbus. My SIL and I always take an afternoon to Jeffrey’s Antique Mall. And we mean it when we say an afternoon, we’re usually there a good 3-4 hours! We’re always on the prowl for something new and we do quite a bit of wishful thinking too!

I haven’t talked about it on the blog yet but I’m a wannabe Flower Farmer. Thinking ahead to all the lovely flowers I’ll be growing and cutting this summer, I was on a mission to find some vases I couldn’t live without. And were there plenty t choose from! (Sadly, many out of the price range I wanted to pay.)

In reading up on displaying cut flowers, one piece of advice stood out- do not use clear glass vases. It seems light can decay the stems and aid in bacteria growth in the water (I inferred this, don’t take that as gospel) and also the stems can be unsightly. Plus you can’t really use a flower frog or oasis with a clear vase.

Can you guess, dear readers, what all my vases are?

I entered the shop prepared to go out of my comfort zone and find me some vases that are colorful! And I wanted several different sizes. And cheap…

Here’s the haul!

I picked up all 10 vases for a little less than a hundred dollars. I think I did pretty good!

The little bud vases on the left are probably from the 50’s-60’s. They are so cute and a dollar. For the pair. ♥

The hourglass, earthy tone vase is a McCoy (big name in vintage pottery) and was a good price.

Isn’t that milk glass planter adorable? The marbled milk glass I have never seen before, it is called Glass Akro Agate.

It’s hard to see but the vase in the back left is a black fluted bud vase. It is really beautiful and the pink tulips looked stunning in it.

One piece I really lucked out on is the green glass vase. The curvy, classic shape caught my eye right away and that usually means it’s going to be expensive! Plus it’s a Fenton (big name in glassware) so I was sure it was more than what I wanted to spend. BUT, it was only twenty-five dollars- as is.

It took me a minute to find the ‘as-is.’ On one foot the glass piece between the ‘toes’ is broken off, and I didn’t even notice the tiny chip from the rim until I was putting flowers in it. There was a matching, pristine bowl next to the vase priced seventy-five dollars. I figure these insignificant flaws (who will notice the broken foot when there are beautiful flowers to see?) saved me forty or fifty dollars. That’s a win!

I’m happy I found this gorgeous, big blue vase. It is nice and sturdy and I put it to good use when a branch came down off our weeping cherry. The bright pink flowers paired with the clear blue looks smashing, don’t you think?

I love finding pre-loved items to decorate my home. I’m not a purist when antique or thrift shopping; I don’t mind the dents, scratches, and scars. Or a little dirt that can be washed off!

How about you, dear reader? Do you thrift home goods? Do you have a treasured vase or a favorite from this haul? Let us know in the comments!
