Talking About Shoes – Part 2

Welcome back to shoe talk with Tangerine Tea and Winter Bee! In case you missed it, last week we chatted about how many shoes we have, what kinds of shoes, as well as how and why we shop for shoes. Be sure to read that post if you haven’t already!

This week, we wanted to show how we wear our various types of shoes. How we style them, when we wear them and where we wear them. Lets go!!

Tangerine Tea:

I want to start of with saying, I love my flat shoes! A couple pairs I’ve been wearing a lot recently are my Adidas and my Kate Spade x Keds. I tend to always wear my Adidas with a specific pair of ripped skinny jeans. I love wearing them paired with a cute crop top when I am going out with friends. The Kate Spade shoes I have been wearing when I am feeling more “extra.” I have worn them just going to the craft store. They really boost my confidence! I’m still working on matching them to the perfect outfit, but for now, they have completed an outfit comprised of jeans and a sweatshirt.

Winter Bee:

I admit I’m one of those people who tend to decide what to wear starting with the shoes. Does anybody else do that?

I have so many thoughts on shoes: how they change an outfit, how they flatter (or not) my body, and how they can dress up or down any outfit. So I’ll share some outfits and see what we think!

Here’s a basic outfit (denim shirt and jeans) with 2 different pairs of shoes. Two I like, one I don’t think works.

The first picture, with the cuffed skinny jean and the low vamp flat (the vamp is the upper part of the shoe), is my favorite look. There’s a proportionate amount of skin showing, giving a flirty and dainty look to the outfit. It’s good to pay attention to the vamp of the shoe, since a low vamp creates the illusion of a longer leg. I don’t have long legs, so I usually get flats, heels, and sandals with as low a vamp as I can.

On the other hand, in the third photo, the jeans go all the way to my ankle so that little bit of skin showing is disproportionate and just looks weird! No! No! No!

In the center, I’m wearing another pair of ankle length jeans, but this time with a high vamp sneaker. Now there is a lovely flow of blue from the pant to the toes. The skinny jean also lets the daisy print ribbon laces steal the show.

Tangerine Tea:

When it comes to heels, I tend to only wear heels to church. However, this is mainly because I am still easing myself back into public spaces since they have been opening up more. In the past I have not worn heels tht much, even though I do have a few pairs. So when I do wear heels, my favorite pair is my nude heels. They can be paired with any outfit whether it be jeans and a t-shirt for a casual hang out, or a dress to church. I also love these floral, summery heels. I bought these on sale and have never been brave enough to wear them out because I don’t feel like I have found an appropriate outfit for them, but I can’t wait until I do!

Winter Bee:

I have two pair of pumps which I didn’t wear very much this year. They are both Trotters brand with great cushioning. I got them on e-bay for less than half retail cost and they were both brand new, never worn. I like wearing leggings under my skirts and dresses in the cooler weather and that doesn’t lend itself to heels!

Here is a summer dress that I wore with a few different types of shoes.

I’m a fan of the sneaker or trainer with a dress or skirt but it’s really hard for me to pull off. You can see here where the vamp makes a huge difference on how my legs look. I love these floral sneakers and they match the dress perfectly, but look at those stumpy legs!

The espadrilles, on the other hand, add length to my leg and the slight heel gives me additional boost. Plus they are a bit dressier while still keeping it casual. This outfit is a keeper. I would change to the red glasses though ♥

Winter Bee:

I can’t resist sharing the newest addition to my shoe family. I need a comfy sturdy shoe for gardening and I heard good things about Sloggers so I thought I’d give them a try. LOOK! BEES!

We could make this post a mile long! We’ll be back with another post about styling with shoes- after all, summer is coming and we’ll need to break out the sandals- but in the meantime we’d love you to share your favorite pair of shoes!

  1. I like that you wear sneakers with your dress. I refuse to be uncomfortable, so I also wear sneakers with my dress. I bought a pair of wingtip oxfords as a match-all
