Three Ways with a Cardigan Sweater

But first- here’s a hello from Rachel, who is on her honeymoon at Disney Land! I can’t wait to hear about her adventures in LA.

On to the Cardigan

I became a big fan of the cardigan sweater when I found out you don’t have to keep them buttoned. I have no idea why it took me so long to figure that out. And they don’t have to part of a twinset (oh my goodness, do I look horrible in a twinset).

Full disclosure on this sweater- I waffle between keeping it and letting it go. It didn’t keep it’s shape well after laundering and I’m disappointed in how thin it is. It doesn’t look too bad in these photos but in person you can see the stripes of the shirt right through the sweater. Is it just me or does anyone else notice how thin so much clothing is now?

On the plus side, I love the color and the neckline.

Style #1: Buttoning just the middle buttons

This is my favorite look of the three. The benefit of buttoning just the middle buttons is creating the illusion of an hourglass figure. This is a great go-to trick for those of us with a rectangle shape! Be careful the sweater isn’t pulling too tightly across your middle. This cardigan is loose enough I could pull it off.

Style #2: Buttoned up

This look is definitely a no-go! I don’t like how visible the shirt is underneath, it creates this weird color line and the wrinkles!

My proportions aren’t great with this sweater length either. The ideal is to to be divided top and bottom, 1/3 to 2/3- the Golden Ratio. This look is more on the 50/50 so not the most flattering. In the first and third photos, you can see that the striped shirt to jeans is at that Golden Ratio and the cardigan length isn’t as noticeable.

Maybe it’s the wooden doors picking up the color, but I am not liking seeing just the orange stripes either. Or maybe I’m just a rainbow kind of girl. 🌈

Style #3: Open

I like this look too. The vertical line is always slimming, and good to hide any muffin top that might be happening under there!

Hmmm, this sweater might be a keeper after all. I think I’ll challenge myself to find at least three other looks in the coming weeks. I’ll let you know how it goes.

The sweater and shirt are both Talbots. I’ve had the striped shirt several years now and it has really held up.

If you’re a high-waisted, fluffy girl like me, get thyself to Lane Bryant! I love, love, love, so many of their jeans.

And now the elephant in the room!

You may have noticed my fabulous footwear. It’s what all the cool girls are wearing this season.

I had surgery to correct the bane of women everywhere- the bunion. Well, maybe not ALL women, my mother has perfectly straight toes at 84 (jealous). I’m healing very well, with minimal pain and hopefully will only be in the boot for a few more weeks. Then on to the other foot. Jeesh!
