Who needs a dining room, anyway?

A little bit ago, I shared my new side hustle, Winter Bee Garden.

With the stack of seeds packets growing larger every week, I need some extra room for seedlings. I started out last winter with a small table I brought into my dining room, but that is not going to cut it this year!

What to do?

I love our dining room. Almost all the furniture came from my very favorite store, Pier One.

<Okay, I’m back from browsing Pier One website. Want things.>

Of course, it was so long ago I decorated, I can’t find much in the way of pictures, but here’s a tiny look:

And then this happened:

Thought 1

Although the dining room fills me with happiness when I look at it, we actually eat in it maybe once a year. And I really need more space to grow seeds. Immediately my fevered brain started planning- I can take out the chairs and move the table over to the windows and set up more lights.

Only one smallish problem…

The chandelier in the middle of the room. Right at face height. Rethink the plan. Do I replace the chandelier with a ceiling light? Do I leave the table in the middle of the room (awkward) and what about storage? Believe me, I need storage!

Thought 2

Let me introduce you to the room opposite the dining room, which Mr. Bee refers to as the useless room and I call the sitting room. The grands sometimes play in that room and it gets used when we have family parties, but that’s about it.

But I really love this room too. I don’t want to get rid of the chairs. And my silver tree trunk lamp. What to do?

Thought 3

What if I ditch the dining room and turn that room into the sitting room? Hmmmm. But still have the chandelier dilemma. I do have a small drop-leaf round table in storage- that might look interesting under the chandelier.

With this room as my garden room, I’ll have sun all day AND the bonus of looking out over my raised beds.

Introducing the new sitting room

I am in love with this room! I shopped my house and everything came together beautifully. The only thing new-to-me are the curtains, which I got at a consignment store for $6! Score!

I sold the dining room chairs on Facebook Marketplace, and I think I’ll use the table in the garden room for the time being. My tree trunk lamp resides in the living room, where it looks awesome.

The Garden Room is under construction- stay tuned for the big reveal!

As you can see- I have much to be thankful for this holiday season. Wishing you, dear readers, a Thanksgiving filled with serenity and gratitude.

  1. LOVE the new sitting room.
Kind of wish the rug from the old sitting room fit in the new one… Love that rug also!

REALLY LOVE that you are dedicating space to your new passion….. growing flowers… spreading love.

    1. Thank you Robin ♥ Oddly enough, I originally bought that rug for the dining room! But it’s packed away so maybe I’ll trade it out again someday (if I don’t sell it LOL).
