Favorite Decorations of Christmas Past & Present

We love decorating for Christmas! We want to share some of our favorites with you.

Tangerine Tea:

I look forward to Christmas time all year long, it is my favorite holiday. And because I love it so much, I often look for more decorations every year. Here are my top three favorites!

One of the new ornaments on the tree this year is extra special. This beautiful Cinderella and Prince Charming all in white, also plays “So This is Love.” It really is a Christmas ornament, but my husband and I used it as our wedding “topper” (it was too heavy for the cake so it sat next to the cake). It is the best decoration to remind us of our wedding day every year.

Before the wedding ornament came along, my absolute favorite Christmas decoration for years has been Santa praying over baby Jesus. I love the innocence it displays, as well as the beliefs of the season. Plus it is just plain adorable.

In the last couple years, my husband has gathered his collection of nutcrackers and brought them home. We have only added a couple to the regular collection. These are so fun to have around and see all the different outfits and characters. Just this year he was gifted a little chef nutcracker. Again, adorable!

Winter Bee:

Aha! This is one of those posts that highlight differences between our life stages. Once my children flew the nest and started families of their own, I got myself a fake tree and decorated to fit my home décor. A few years ago I even bought myself a white tree because I think they are beautiful!

In the center photo above you can see my Christmas Crown. I wear either the crown or a silly tiny Santa hat all through Advent. I guess that counts as decoration?

Over the last ten-fifteen years, sometimes I put up a tree, sometimes I don’t. It feels bleak to put up a tree with only a smattering of a few small gifts under it. This year I didn’t bother, only putting out some tabletop décor here and there. The little glass tree is the official Christmas Tree this year, haha.

I missed having a tree though, so I think maybe next year I will get some really pretty wrapping paper and wrap some fake presents to put under the tree. On the other hand, we do not ever, ever not have a stocking. Stockings are the best!

I did go a little berserk growing amaryllis though (and paperwhites). Fingers crossed I will be successful over-summering the amaryllis so they will bloom again next year. Have you ever seen such gorgeousness as the double-bloom? (I got it from Longfield Gardens.) They are at least 6 inches across!
